How a Lifetime in Coffee Led to a Passion for Travel

People often ask me, “Why The Caffeinated Wanderer?”
The answer isn’t found in a marketing book or a branding agency. It’s found in a lifetime of experiences—experiences that combined two of my greatest passions: coffee and travel.
The Caffeinated Wanderer isn’t just the name of my business. It’s the story of my life.
It Started with Coffee
Long before I became a travel advisor, I spent more than 35 years in the coffee industry.
During my career with Sara Lee Coffee & Tea, I had the privilege of working with some of America’s best-known coffee brands. I visited restaurants, hotels, hospitals, universities, and businesses across the Southeast, helping customers serve a better cup of coffee.
Coffee wasn’t simply a product—it became a way to build relationships.
Some of my favorite memories weren’t made in conference rooms. They happened over a fresh cup of coffee while listening to customers share stories about their businesses, families, and dreams.
Looking back, I realize those conversations taught me something important:
Great coffee brings people together.
Then Came Travel
As the years passed, my wife, Myra, and I began traveling more.
What started as an occasional vacation quickly became something much bigger.
We discovered that travel has a way of slowing life down.
Whether we were sailing through the vineyards of France, walking the beaches of Normandy, standing beneath the Acropolis in Athens, exploring the Scottish Highlands, or watching the sun rise over the Rhine River, every destination had its own story waiting to be discovered.
And wherever we went…
I always searched for the perfect cup of coffee.
Coffee Became the Thread
Some people collect souvenirs.
Others collect passport stamps.
I collect coffee memories.
I’ve enjoyed espresso in Europe, cappuccinos overlooking ancient cities, coffee aboard elegant river ships, and countless cups shared with new friends from around the world.
Each one reminds me that travel isn’t simply about checking destinations off a list.
It’s about experiencing cultures through their people, food, traditions—and yes, their coffee.
A New Chapter
When I retired from the coffee industry, I wasn’t ready to stop exploring.
Instead, I decided to help others create unforgettable journeys of their own.
That’s how The Caffeinated Wanderer Cruises & Tours was born.
